55. 58. One of the three Inspectors will be on duty in the Charge Room at the Central Duty of Inspectors Station properly dressed in his Uniform from 10 A.M. one day until 10 A.M. the next.

59. He will then attend at the Police Court with the Cases which have been brought At the Magistrate's before him at the Station during the preceding 24 hours; he will see that each case is brought properly to the notice of the Magistrate, and that the Witnesses are in attend- ance, and are brought forward in due Order.

60. He will ask permission of the Magistrate to put to the Witness under exami- nation any question which may elucidate the case; will notice any discrepancy between) the Statements made by the Witnesses at the Police Station, and those made before the Magistrate; and will consider that he as public prosecutor has the charge and conduct of each case until it be brought to a conclusion. He will be strictly accountable for all that occurs in the district while in charge at the Central Station; and will patrol once as the Captain Superintendent may direct before the return of his tour of duty; and though off duty he will be expected to assist readily whenever his services may be re- quired; he will recollect that the good conduct of the Constables is greatly influenced by the example set them by their Officers, and will comport himself accordingly.

61. One of the Inspectors will patrol once at least during the 24 hours by night Inspector's Patrol. at such time and in such manner as the Captain Superintendent may direct. He will enter in the Occurrence Book the particulars of his Patrol, and will see that the entry

26. The Captain Superintendent of Police is authorized to engage Men provisionally för One Month previous to their being finally approved of and sworn in as Constables for the term of Five Years.
