GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

At the request of the Government of Ceylon, the following Notice is published for the information of Mariners and others whom it may concern.

NOTICE.

On and after the 1st of June, 1863, a FLOATING LIGHT-SHIP will be moored inside the Little Basses Reef:-The entre of Rocks bearing S.bW. W., distant about one-third of a mile,

It will exhibit a FLASHING LIGHT between the hours of sunset and sunrise, at intervals of one minute and a half. It is 33 feet above the Sea, and from the horizon dips at 7 miles; to a ship within that distance, in fine weather, it does not entirely disappear; and is visible 11 miles from a ship's deck of 18 feet elevation.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified that on and after the 1st day of Angust next the Packet Agency at Canton will be closed, and the Community must make their own arrangements for the conveyance of their Correspondence to and from Hongkong from that

date.
