THE Acting Colonial Secretary will be glad to receive information respecting the above men- tioned person, who is said to have been in Hong- kong in 1854, and had been previously trading at Amoy. Itis stated that there is a “Surplus proper- ty" to which the said C. J. SMYTHE or O'REILLY is entitled.

NOTICE.

T being desirable to obtain a practical Scheme for the further development of existing DRAIN- AGE and REMOVAL of SEWAGE applicable to the City and Vicinity of Victoria, and for an addi- tional WATER SUPPLY connected therewith, such extra supply to be also made available in case of need for extinction of fires:

The COMMITTEE for SANATORY PURPOSES are prepared, with the sanction of His Excellency the ACTING GOVERNOR, to offer a Premium of $400, for the Best practical scheme submitted to them, and $100 for the Second best scheme.

The Plans to be submitted to the Committee, on or before the 11th April, 1863.

The Competitors for the above Premiums will require to furnish, with their schemes, a Report explanatory of the same, and personally to attend such Meetings of the Committee as may be required. It is to be understood, that the Plans of the successful Competitors are to become the Property of the Government.

All necessary Information may be obtained on application at the Surveyor General's Office, be- tween the hours of 11 A.M. and 3 P.M.

CARGO will be received on board until 5 P.M. on the 30th March, SPECIE until Noon on the 31st March, and PARCELS until 5 P.M. on the 30th March.

Contents and Value of Packages are required. „* A written declaration of the Contents and Value of the Packages for the Overland Route is required by the Egyptian Government, and must be delivered by the shippers to the Com- pany's Agents with the Bilis of Lading, or with Parcels; and the Company do not hold them- selves responsible for any Detention or Preju- dice which may happen from incorrectness on such declaration. Shippers of Cargo on the Company's Black Bills of Lading are particu- larly requested to note the Terms and Conditions of these Bills of Lading, with reference to the Transhipment and forwarding of Cargo, with a view to the adequateness of their Insurance Policies in respect of the same.

CANTON FIRE BRIGADE. [HE undersigned has in his possession a sum of about $5,300 accruing principally from the amount recovered from the Chinese Government for the value of the Fire Engines, &c., which be- longed to the Foreign Community in Canton and were destroyed at the burning of the Factories in 1856.

The undersigned has no information which would enable hita to make a proper distribution of this money amongst the original subscribers, and he therefore begs to suggest its appropriation to this Fund now being raised for the crection of a City Hall and Theatre in Hongkong. In the absence of any objection to this course the amount will be so transferred on the 1st May next.
