The following Notice of a Light recently placed on the South Bank of the Yang-tsze-kiang is published for general information.

HYDROGRAPHICAL NOTICE (No. 16.)
On and after the 5th day of December 1864 a fixed white light placed at an elevation of 70 feet above the mean level o the sea, will be exhibited from the Kin-toan Beacon on the South bank of the Yang-tsze-kiang. It should be visible in clear weather at a distance of 5 or 6 miles.
The same building will display a red light at an elevation of 30 feet above the mean level of the sea. This light is intended to keep vessels clear of the dangerous spit that has formed off the Beacon, and it will not be visible from a ship's deck 15 feet above the sea until she is in 18 feet (low water spring tides.)
The Beacon is painted red and white chequered and is surmounted by a bright brass ball.

Applicants for Licenses for Cargo Boats under Ordinance No. 15 of 1860 are hereby informed that they must apply to this Office to have their Boats examined prior to such License being granted.
Present holders are also reminded that their licenses expire on the 31st instant.
