At the request of M. DU CHESNE, Consul for France, the subjoined Notification is published for the information of Shipmasters, showing that from the 1st March, to 1st May, 1866, the Pondichery Light will be replaced by a Double Light fixed at the Crosstrecs of the Flag Staff, and visible at Five miles' distance.

PONDICHERY, 14 Octobre, 1865.

MONSIEUR LE CONSUL. J'ai l'honneur de vous prier de vouloir bien faire connaitre, par le mode de publication que vous croirez devoir employer, à MM. les Capitaines de Navires qui auront à aborder notre rade, que du 1 Mars au 1 Mai, 1866, le feu du phare de Pondichéry sera remplacé par un double feu fixé à la tête du Basmat de Pavilion. Ce feu sera visible à 5 milles en mer et suffira je pense pour indiquer le mouillage. Cette substitution temporaire est nécessitée par les réparations que nous devons faire à la lanterne du phare.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

With reference to Government Notification No. 50 of 16th March, 1864, it is hereby notified that a further Supply of Water being in the course of provision, Section 4 of Ordinance 12 of 1860, will, from the 1st January, 1866, be generally enforced.

His Excellency the ACTING GOVERNOR is pleased to direct that the customary Holidays be kept by the various Departments of this Government from the Evening of the 23rd to the Morning of the 27th instant, and from the Evening of the 30th instant, to the Morning of the 3rd proximo.
