GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified that, with the concurrence of the Honorable the Major General Commanding China, Lieutenant LYSTER, R.E., has been appointed Resident Civil Engineer at Kowloon, in the place of Lieutenant WILLIAMS, R.E., resigned.

The above appointment will take effect from the 1st Proximo.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Notice to the Chinese Inhabitants of Victoria, inserted in the Chinese Gazette, is published for general information.

Every Chinese going out after dark must carry a light.

From 8 P.M. till morning Gunfire, any Chinese found without a Pass and light will be taken into

custody.

Any Servant who may be sent out during the above period must be furnished with a Pass and

light by his Employer.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency the ACTING GOVERNOR is pleased to appoint, from the 15th Instant, N. R. MASSON, Esquire, Deputy Registrar, to be Acting Registrar of the Supreme Court until further notice.

Mr. MASSON will continue to do the duties of his own Office.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The Honorable JOHN SMALE, Esquire, having been granted twelve months' leave of absence, His Excellency the ACTING GOVERNOR is pleased to appoint the Honorable HENRY JOHN BALL, Esquire, age of the Summary Jurisdiction Court, to act as Attorney General during that Officer's absence,

until further notice.

His Excellency has also been pleased to appoint J. C. WHYTE, Esquire, to act as Judge of the Court of Summary Jurisdiction until further notice.

Mr. WHYTE will continue to do the duties of his own Office. These appointments will take effect from the 1st Proximo.
