His Excellency the GOVERNOR is pleased to recognize provisionally the Honorable JAMES WHITTALL, Esquire, as Consul General for His Hawaiian Majesty in this Colony, until Her Majesty's pleasure be known.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The following changes and appointments in the Hongkong Volunteer Corps have been approved by His Excellency the GOVERNOR and are published for general information.
Captain and Brevet Major JouN GUILLUM SCOTT, 22nd Bombay Native Infantry, to be Lieutenant Colonel Commandant, vice BRINE, ordered home, and in consideration of his services permitted to retain his rank in the Corps and wear the uniform.
HENRY JOIN HOWARD TRIPP, Esquire, Gunner Hongkong Volunteers and extra Aide-de-Camp to His Excellency the GOVERNOR, to be 2nd Captain and Adjutant, vice DoDD who resigns the Adjutanoy only and is placed on the Supernumerary list of his rank.
CRAWFORD DAVISON KERR, Esquire, Private Hongkong Volunteers, to be extra Aide-de-Camp to His Excellency the GOVERNOR, vice TRIPP who resign, the extra A. D. C. only on appointment as 2nd Captain and Adjutant.
MEMO.
His Excellency the GOVERNOR has been pleased to accept the resignation of the Commission only held in the "Hongkong Volunteers" by 2nd Lieutenant DUNCAN DAVIDSON.
