GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency Major General JAMES ROBERT BRUNKER having been graciously nominated by Her Majesty to be Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Hongkong, the annexed Copy of a Commission under Her Majesty's Signet and Sign Manual is hereby proclaimed and published for the general information and guidance of all Her Majesty's Subjects, and others whom it may concern.

VICTORIA, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, QUEEN, Defender of the Faith. To Our Trusty and Well-beloved JAMES ROBERT BRUNKER, Esquire, Major General in Our Army, Greeting. We, reposing Especial Trust and Confidence in your Loyalty, Integrity and Ability, Do by these Presents constitute and appoint you to be Our Lieutenant-Governor of Our Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies in the event of the death or absence from the limits of his Government of Our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, Knight, Companion of Our Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Our Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Our said Colony and its Dependencies. To have, hold, exercise and enjoy the said Place and Office of Lieutenant-Governor of Our said Colony and its Dependencies in the event of the death or absence of Our said Governor and Commander-in-Chief from the limits of his Government and until Our further Pleasure shall be signified, with all and singular the Powers and Authorities contained in Our Letters Patent under the Great Seal of Our United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date at Westminster the Fifth Day of April One thousand Eight hundred and Forty-three, in the Sixth Year of Our Reign erecting the Island of Hongkong and its Dependencies into a separate Colony and providing for the Government thereof, which said Powers and Authorities We do hereby authorize you to exercise and perform according to such Instructions under Our Sign Manual and Signet as Our Governor aforesaid hath already received from Us, and according to such further Powers, Instruc- tions and Authorities as shall at any time hereafter be granted or appointed him or you under Our Sign Manual and Signet, or by Our Order in Our Privy Council, or by Us through One of Our Prin- cipal Secretaries of State, and according to such reasonable Laws, Statutes or Ordinances as are now or shall hereafter be in force in the said Colony. And We do hereby Command all and singular Our Officers, Ministers and Loving Subjects in Our said Colony and its Dependencies, and all others whom it may concern, to take due notice hereof and to give their ready obedience accordingly.
Given at Our Court at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, this Second Day of March, 1868, in the Thirty-first Year of Our Reign.
