Rate-Payers are hereby informed that, during the temporary absence on leave of the Honorable The Acting Colonial Treasurer, the Treasury Receipts in payment of Local Taxes will be signed by Mr. CARVALHO, First Clerk and Cashier, on behalf of the Acting Treasurer, in conjunction with Mr. C. H. HORDEN, of the Police and Lighting Rate Branch.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Tenders for the supply of Provisions and other Articles required for the use of Victoria Gaol, from the 21st November, 1868, to the 20th November, 1869, inclusive, will be received at this Office, until Noon of the 10th November, 1868.
All information required, and Blank Forms of Tender may be obtained on application to the Superintendent of Victoria Gaol.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified that under the Provisions of Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, Thursday, the 29th day of October next, is fixed for a Special Sessions of the Justices of the Peace, to be held at the Police Magistrates' Office, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon of that Day, for the purpose of considering Applications for Licenses for the Sale of Spirituous and Fermented Liquors during the Year com- mencing on 1st December next.
Applications for such Licenses must be lodged at the Police Magistrates' Office at least Ten Days. before the Sessions, in the Form prescribed in the said Ordinance, and no Application will, after that period, be received for submission to the Sessions.
Printed Forms of Applications may be obtained by intending Applicants at the Police Magis- trates' Office between the hours of 10 A.M, and 4 P.M.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
Made by the Governor in Council, this 12th Day of September, 1868, in pursuance of Section XVIII of Ordinance No. 9 of 1867.
1. No Person shall keep any House, Room, Boat, or Vessel, or any place on Land or Water for Public Playing or Gambling, or shall permit any Person to Play within such House, Room, Boat, or Vessel, or any place on Land or Water, except in such places as are Licensed by the Governor in Council; and every such License so granted shall be revocable at the will and pleasure of the Officer administering the Government, and shall be subject to such limitations as the Officer administering the Government shall impose.
