By His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, Knight, and Companion of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same.
Whereas the Commands of Her Most Gracious Majesty The QUEEN, conveyed through His Grace The Duke of BUCKINGHAM AND CHANDOS, Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, have been received, approving of and confirming the following Ordinances, namely:—
No. 3 of 1868, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to empower the Supreme Court to direct Offenders to be whipped and to be kept in Solitary Confinement in certain specified cases; No. 4 of 1868, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice
of the Legislative Council thereof, for the Establishment of a Fire Brigade; No. 7 of 1868, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, for amending the Law relative to Jurors and Juries: Now, therefore, it is hereby declared, that the said Ordinances have been so approved and confirmed, as aforesaid.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified that under the Provisions of Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, Thursday, the 29th day of October next, is fixed for a Special Sessions of the Justices of the Peace, to be held at the Police Magistrates' Office, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon of that Day, for the purpose of considering Applications for Licenses for the Sale of Spirituous and Fermented Liquors during the Year com- mencing on 1st December next.
Applications for such Licenses must be lodged at the Police Magistrates' Office at least Ten Days before the Sessions, in the Form prescribed in the said Ordinance, and no Application will, after that period, be received for submission to the Sessions.
Printed Forms of Applications may be obtained by intending Applicants at the Police Magis- trates' Office between the hours of 10 A.M. and 4 P.M.
