On the nomination of the Honorable Chief Justice SMALE, His Excellency The GOVERNOR has been pleased to appoint RICHARD J. AMOS, Esquire, to be Secretary and Clerk to the Chief Justice from the 22nd ultimo, vice WILLIAM SMALE, Esquire, resigned.

✓ GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
With reference to Government Notification No. 86 of the 2nd ultimo, it is hereby made known that His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, C.B., Governor and Commander-in-Chief, has granted to 'Ng-Yii, of the Fook-Loong Shop, No. 77 Jervois Street, and Ho-Leong, of the Shew- Loong Shop, No. 57 Jervois Street, the Exclusive Privilege of preparing and selling prepared Opium within the Colony of Hongkong and the Waters thereof for the period of One Year from the 1st of August, 1868.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified that, under the authority of a Treasury Warrant dated the 1st May last, Superintending, or First Class Schoolmasters in the Army will, in future, be entitled to the same privileges in regard to Letters sent by or addressed to them on their own private affairs as are at present enjoyed by Commissioned Officers in the Army; and all Army Schoolmistresses will be entitled (as Army Schoolmasters of all but the First Class now are) to the same privileges, in regard to their Letters, as are enjoyed by non-Commissioned Officers and Private Soldiers.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Whereas by an Indenture bearing date the 4th Day of October, 1844, and made between Our Sovereign Lady QUEEN VICTORIA of the one part, and one ANGUS FLETCHER of the other part, Her said Majesty did demise to the said ANGUS FLETCHER, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, a certain Piece or Parcel of ground situate and being at Victoria in this Colony, and particularly mentioned and described in the said Indenture, (except as in the said Indenture is excepted and) except amongst other things and always reserved unto Her said Majesty, Her Heirs, Successors and Assigns full power to resume and take possession of all or any part of the said piece or parcel of Ground thereby demised if required for the improvement of the said Colony of Hongkong, or for any other public purpose whatsoever, Three Calendar Months notice being given to the Occupant thereof of its being so required, and a full and fair compensation for the said land and the buildings thereon being paid to the said ANGUS FLETCHER, his heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns, at a valuation to be fairly and impartially made by the Surveyor of Her said Majesty, Her Heirs, Successors, or Assigns, To have and to hold the said piece or parcel of ground unto the said ANGUS FLETCHER, his executors, administrators and assigns from the First Day of February then last past for the full end and term of Seventy-five Years from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete and ended yielding and paying therefor as in the said Indenture is expressed:
And Whereas Her said Majesty did on the First Day of January, 1867, resume and take possession of that part of the said piece or parcel of Ground then lying between the Building then erected on Marine Lot No. 21 and the Ground then occupied by the Commissariat and registered in the Land Office in the name of Her Majesty's Principal Officers of Ordnance and extending from Queen's Road to the Sea; such part having been required for the improvement of this Colony, and Three Calendar Months notice having been previously given to the Occupant thereof of its being required:
And Whereas at a valuation fairly and impartially made by WILBERFORCE WILSON, Esquire, the Surveyor of Her said Majesty the sum of $3,854 was directed to be paid to the said ANGUS FLETCHER, his heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns as and by way of a full and fair com- pensation for the said part of the land so resumed and taken possession of as aforesaid:
