GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

VOL. XV.

His Royal Highness the DUKE OF EDINBURGH is expected to arrive in this Colony some time between the 22nd and 29th instant, and as the Governor is well aware of the desire of this Community to testify their gratification at receiving a visit from a Son of the QUEEN, it is His Excellency's intention to invite all Residents to illuminate their houses between 9 P.M. and midnight, on some day to be hereafter named by proclamation. In the meantime this notice is issued to enable the needful preparations to be made.

It is also the intention of His Excellency to permit on that occasion the erection of such scaffolding or other supports for Gas fixtures, Lanterns, or Lamps, as may be sanctioned by the Surveyor General.

The Police will also be directed not to require Night Passes from Chinese conducting themselves quietly, till 1.30 a.m.

Further particulars-as may be expedient-will be hereafter published for general information.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified that His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, C.B., in Council, has this day administered to EDWARD HUTCHINSON POLLARD, Esquire, q.c., Acting Attorney General of Hongkong, the Oath of Office as a Member of the Executive Council of the Colony.

The Honorable EDWARD HUTCHINSON POLLARD, Q.C., took his seat at the Board accordingly.

Notice is hereby given that DoN TOMAS ORTUNO has returned to Hongkong, and resumed charge, as Consul, of the Spanish Consulate at this Port, from this date.
