GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Additional Conditions for holding the Opium Grant Privilege for the preparation and sale of Prepared Opium within the Colony of Hongkong, have been made by His Excellency the Governor in Council, and are published for general information.

From and after the 1st of August, 1869, no Privilege will be granted under Section II of Ordinance No. 2 of 1858, and no License under Section III of that Ordinance, unless in addition to the Conditions already contained in them respectively, there be annexed thereto Conditions as follows:-

1. That all Party walls adjoining Opium Furnaces be of Brick or Stone of a thickness of not less than 24 inches.

2. That in all cases where the floors above the Boiling house are inhabited, or even the floor- joists boarded, Chimney breasts be constructed having a separate flue for each Furnace of not less than 12 inches by 9 inches.

3. That Hoods of uninflammable material be constructed over the furnaces and chimnies built above the roof of the Boiling-house, 2 flues only being gathered into each chimney stack.

4. That the above Conditions be carried out to the satisfaction of the Surveyor General.

Notice is hereby given that, on and after the 1st of October next, no Signals will be made or answered from Government Stations on Shore or Ships at Sea, except by means of the Commercial Code of Signals.
