GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Order of Her Majesty in Council, substituting the "Micado" for the "Tycoon" of Japan in the Order in Council of 9th March, 1865, is published for general information.

PRESENT,

The QUEEN's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas, in pursuance of the powers vested in Her Majesty by an Act of Parliament passed in the session of the sixth and seventh years of Her Majesty's reign, chapter ninety-four, entitled "An Act to remove doubts as to the exercise of power "and jurisdiction by Her Majesty within divers countries and places out of Her Majesty's dominions, and to render the same more effectual," Her Majesty was pleased by an Order of Her Majesty in Council, dated the ninth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, to make provision for the due exercise of the power and jurisdiction which Her Majesty had in the dominions of the Emperor of China and in the dominions of the Tycoon of Japan: and whereas it is necessary at the present time that the provisions of the said Order should be made applicable to the Mikado of Japan, instead of the Tycoon of Japan as therein set forth:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by virtue of the powers vested in Her Majesty by the aforesaid Act of the sixth and seventh years of Her Majesty's reign, is pleased by and with the advice of Her Privy Council to order, and it is hereby ordered as follows:

Wherever in the aforesaid Order of the ninth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, reference is made to the Tycoon of Japan, such reference shall, from and after the receipt of this present Order by Her Majesty's Envoy Ex- traordinary and Plenipotentiary in Japan, be held to apply to the Mikado of Japan in place of the Tycoon:

And the Right Honourable the Earl of Clarendon and the Right Honourable the Earl Granville, two of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, and the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, are to give the necessary directions herein, as to them may respectively appertain.

The Honorable JOHN SMALE, Chief Justice of the Colony of Hongkong, having been granted Five Months' Leave of absence from this date, His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, C.B., has been pleased to appoint The Honorable JULIAN PAUNCEFOTE, to be acting Chief Justice, provi- sionally, and until further notice.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, C.B., has been pleased to appoint EDWARD HUTCHINSON POLLARD, Esquire, Q.C., to be Acting Attorney General of Hongkong, pro- visionally, and until further notice, vice the Honorable JULIAN PAUNCEFOTE, appointed Acting Chief Justice.
