THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 17TH JULY, 1869.

POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified, by order of His Excellency The Governor, for general information that henceforward Book and Pattern Packets may be sent through the Post by the Contract Mail Packets, between Hongkong and the Australian Colonies, at the following rates of Postage:

Not exceeding 4 oz. 6 cents.

Exceeding 8 oz. and not exceeding 1 lb. 24 cents.

Exceeding 4 oz. and not exceeding 8 oz. 12 cents.

And for every additional 8 ounces 12 cents.

Prepayment of the Postage is compulsory..

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

No. 76.

With reference to Government Notification No. 67 of 11th ultimo, it is hereby notified that, for the ensuing 12 months from the 1st instant, the Western Slaughter House, is held by Tong Pui, of Victoria, Trader, at a monthly Rental of $1,060; and the Eastern by Lau Wai, also of Victoria, Trader, at a monthly Rental of $340.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Tenders will be received at the Registrar General's Office up to Noon of Saturday, the 24th Instant, for the Privilege of preparing and selling Prepared Opium within this Colony for One year from the 1st of August, 1869, under the Conditions set forth in Ordinance No. 2 of 1858.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Letter from Her Majesty's Consul at Manila, respecting the equalisation of Port Dues in the Philippine Islands, is published for general information.

H. B. M.'s CONSULATE,

MANILA, 30th June, 1869. SIR, I have the honour to forward herewith inclosed to your Excellency, two decrees in translation issued by the Provisional Government at Madrid relative to the reciprocity conceded to British ships entering Philippine ports in the matter of the payment of Port and Navigation Dues.

On a reference to that bearing date the 25th of March, it will be observed that all vessels under the British flag entering the Spanish Colonial possessions, whatever may have been the port of their departure, are as regards the payment of those dues, entitled to the enjoyment of equal benefits with those under the Spanish flag.-I have the honour to be, with the greatest respect, Sir, Your Excellency's most obedient and most humble Servant,

TRANSLATION.

MOST EXCELLENT SIR,-In view of various communications made to this Ministerial Department by that of State, transmitting different Notes of the Minister Plenipotentiary of H. B. M., in which it is demonstrated that Spanish Ships enjoy equal benefits with English ones in the payment of Port and Navigation Dues in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and in the English possessions of Canada, the island of Ceylon, Newfoundland, Prince Edward's Island, English Guyana, Bar- badoes, Antigua, Jamaica, Bahamas, British Honduras, St. Lucia, Bermudas Islands, St. Helena, Granada, St. Kitt's, Dominica, Virginias, St. Vincent, Tobago, and Mauritius, I have thought proper to ordain, as individual of the Provisional
