GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Regulations for Street-Chairs and Chair-Coolies are published for general in- formation.

There are two Classes of Street Chairs, Ordinary and Special. All Street-Chairs may carry Persons who have engaged them up to any hour, but Ordinary Chairs may not ply for hire after first gunfire, (8 P.M.), nor Special Chairs after midnight.

As Special Chairs are secured for a higher sum ($50) than Ordinary Chairs ($25), it is for the interest of the Public to engage on ly the former after gunfire.

Each Street-Chair carries a Number, and its two Coolies a Badge each, bearing the same Number as the Chair.

The Numbers and Coolies' Badges of Special Chairs are WHITE, (1 to 200.)

The Numbers and Coolies' Badges of Ordinary Chairs are BLUE, (201 to 700.)

W hen ground of Complaint arises against any Street Chair-Coolie, the Person aggrieved may either hand the Offender over to the Police, or send a memorandum of the complaint and the Chair's Number to the Registrar General.

"When Street Chair-Coolies are suspected of having retained missing property, the Number of their Chair should be sent

to the Registrar General at once without any loss of time.

Each Street-Chair carries on the back of its Number Board a Tariff of Fares condensed from the following.

LEGALISED TARIFF OF FARES FOR CHAIRS, CHAIR BEARERS, AND BOATS,

IN THE COLONY OF HONGKONG.

CHAIRS, OR ORDINARY PULLAWAY BOATS.

Half hour, Three hours,

.12 cents.

.50 cents.

Day (from 6 to 6), Night Fares (after 8 r.

P.M.),

Hour, Six hours,

CHAIR HIRE TO OUT DISTRICTS.

.20 cents. .75 cents.

One Dollar. 10 cents extra.

Beyond Victoria and back,

To Stanley and back,

.50 cents per Man. .60 cents per Man.

Victoria lies below the level of Robinson Road, and includes all the town between the Mint and the Western Slaughter House, with the Race-course. LICENSED BEARERS (EACH.) Half day,

.20 cents.

.8 cents.

PROCLAMATION.

[L.S.] RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL.

By His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, Knight, and Companion of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same.

Whereas the Commands of Her Most Gracious Majesty The QUEEN, conveyed through The Right Honorable Earl GRANVILLE, K.G., Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, have been received, approving of and confirming the following Ordinance; namely:-

No. 15 of 1868, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to assimilate the Laws of this Colony respecting Treasonable Offences to the Law of the United Kingdom:

Now, therefore, it is hereby declared, that the said Ordinance has been so approved and confirmed, as aforesaid.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

HENRY J. HOLMES, Esquire, Clerk of the Supreme and Summary Jurisdiction Courts, having been granted Twelve Months' Leave of absence from the 9th Instant, His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, C.B., has been pleased to appoint CHARLES F. A. SANGSTER, Esquire, to act as Clerk of the Supreme and Summary Jurisdiction Courts, provisionally, and until further notice.
