GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The following Notice from the Honorable The Colonial Treasurer, is published for general
information.

NOTICE.
Crown Lessees are informed that the Crown Rents for the Half Year terminating 25th December, 1870, are payable into the Treasury, on or before the 15th of January, 1871.
The attention of Crown Lessees is drawn to the Second Clause of Ordinance No. 9 of 1869, Clause specifics that in Default in the Payment of Crown Rents, such arrears may be sued for by the which Colonial Treasurer in the Court of Summary Jurisdiction, and a Certificate under the hand of the Treasurer, setting forth the particulars of the sum payable to the Crown and then overdue, shall be "Primâ facie" evidence of the Facts certified by the Treasurer.
Crown Lessces are therefore informed that all Crown Rents in arrear after the 15th of January, 1871, will be sued for in accordance with the Provisions of the Clause and Ordinance specified above.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
It is hereby notified that the period allowed for the reception of Tenders for the Privilege of farming the Granite Quarries in Hongkong and Kowloon during the year 1871, as announced by Notification No. 147 of the 12th November last, has been extended to Noon of the 26th Instant; and it is further notified that the said Privilege will be granted under the following Conditions; namely:- CONDITIONS.

1. The Licensee shall not open any new Quarry.
2. He shall have no claim to any Stone stacked or worked by any preceding Licensee or Sub-
Licensee, and left at the Quarries.
3. All Stone quarried by him or by any of his Sub-Licensees shall be removed from the Quarries within One Month after the Liccuse shall have expired, or shall have become void by reason of any Breach of these Conditions, and in Default thereof all such Stone shall be seized and forfeited to the Crown.
4. He shall grant no Sub-License otherwise than subject to the last preceding Condition. 5. Ile shall be responsible for any Injury or Obstruction occasioned to or in any Drain, Water- course, or Roadway by the working of any Quarry under this License, by reason of any fall of Earth therein or otherwise, and in case he shall not forthwith at his own cost make good such Injury or remove such Obstruction, to the satisfaction of the Surveyor General, it shall be lawful for the Surveyor General to cause the work necessary for such purpose to be executed, and all reasonable costs incurred thereby shall be re-paid by the Licensee to the Crown.
6. He shall use his best endeavours to maintain Peace and good Order, among the Sub-Licensées
and Workmen at the Quarries.
7. In case of the Breach of these Conditions or any of them, the License shall become void and the Licensee shall forfeit to the Crown a Sum equal the amount of Premiun paid by him for the License by way of liquidated damages.
