POST OFFICE NOTIFICATION.

The Spanish Consul having represented the annoyance arising from Letters being, contrary to Law, sent on board the Spanish Men of War which leave this harbour fortnightly with the Mails for Manila; it is hereby notified that, henceforward, all Letters, except such as are received in the Mails from this Department, will be refused on board these vessels.

Plan and Specification can be seen, and a proper Form of Tender obtained, on application, at the Surveyor General's Office.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest, or any Tender.

In continuation of marine notification No. 10, of the 22nd July 1870, the following notice to mariners by the Admiralty Office, London, is published for general information :-

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

[No. 59.] CEYLON.

Light-Vessel off Great Bassas Rock.

With reference to Notices to Mariners, No. 85, dated 12th November 1869, and No. 41, dated 19th April 1870, respect- ing the establishment of a light-vessel near the Great Bassas rocks, off the south-east coast of Ceylon, during the time of building a light-house on the rocks :-

The Trinity House, London, has given Notice, that, in accordance with those Notices, the light-vessel has been placed in position, and is now moored in 12 fathoms N.N.E., three quarters of a mile from the Great Bassas rocks.

The light (in order to distinguish it from that of the Little Bassas 20 miles distant, which shows a white flash every one and a half minutes) is a revolving red light, attaining its greatest brilliancy every forty-five seconds.

By day this light-vessel is distinguished by two balls, vertical, at the mainnast head.
