The following Notice to Mariners, received from the Government of Bombay, is published for general information.

NOTICE

Is hereby given that a light will be shewn on and after the 1st December 1870 from a Light House erected on the outermost rock of a group known as the Burut Islands, or Vingorla Rocks, situated in Latitude 15° 53' 17" North, and Longi- tude 73° 26′ 43′′ East, and bearing from Vingorla Point, No. 77° W, distant 93 miles and Malwan due South, distant 9 miles. The Light is a Dioptric Light of the 4th Order having a visible compass of 2883, and its height above the Sea is 110 feet.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Tenders for the Undertaker's Work required at the Government Civil Hospital will be received at this Office till noon of the 1st, of December, 1870.

Any information on the subject may be obtained from the Superintendent of the Hospital. Tenders to be addressed to the Colonial Secretary, endorsed "Undertaker's Contract for the Government Civil Hospital, 1871."

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified that, in accordance with Section 12 of "The Police and Lighting Rate Ordinance, 1863," lis Excellency the Lientenant-Governor, by and with the Advice of the Executive Council, has fixed the Police Rate for the Year 1871, at 7 per cent for Houses in the City of Victoria; and, in accordance with Section 18 of the same Ordinance, at Five per cent for Houses in the Villages of this Island.

His Excellency has also, by and with the Advice of the Executive Council, and in accordance with the Provisions of Ordinance No. 4 of 1868, fixed the Fire Brigade Rate at per cent for Houses in the City of Victoria.

The above Rates, as regards Houses in Victoria, will be levied exclusive of a Lighting Rate of One-and-a-half per cent under Section 12 of the first named Ordinance, and a Water Rate of Two cent per annum under the Provisions of Ordinance No 12 of 1860,

The Police, Lighting, Fire Brigade, and Water Rates will, under Terms of the Ordinances, be payable Quarterly in advance at the Colonial Treasury, between the first and last Days of the first Month in each Quarter.

These several Rates shall be charged and chargeable on, and recoverable from, the Owners of the Tenements in respect of which the above Assessments have been made.
