NOTIFICATION.

Marine Department, Simla, the 30th June 1870.

With reference to Marine Notification, No. 1, dated 27th January 1870, the following letter from the Right Honorable de Secretary of State for India, and its enclosure, are published for general information.

From the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for India, to His Excellency the Right Honorable the Governor

General of India in Council,—( No. 193, (Financial) dated India Office, London, the 31st May 1870.)

I forward herewith, for your information, copy of a letter from the Board of Trade, dated the 20th May 1870, stating the temporary light ship was moored at her station off the Great Basses Rock, and had commenced the exhibition of her At on the evening of the 30th March last, and requesting that the necessary instructions may be given for the collection of

increased toll to be levied in respect of the Basses Lights.

2. I request that you

will take steps for giving effect to the wishes of the Board of Trade in this matter.

BOARD OF TRADE, HARBOUR DEPARTMENT, WHITEHALL GARDENS, S. W., 20th May 1870. SIR,-With reference to previous correspondence respecting the erection of a light house on Great Basses Rock, Ceylon, a directed by the Board of Trade to request that you will state to the Secretary of State for India that they have received etter from the Elier Brethren of Trinity House, in which it is stated that the temporary light ship was mcored at her

on off the Great Basses Rock, and had commenced the exhibition of her light on the evening of the 30th March last.

I am therefore to request that you will move the Secretary of State for India to cause the necessary instructions to be en for the collection of the increased toll to be levied in respect of the Basses Lights.—I have, &c.,
