PROCLAMATION.

Troops

By His Excellency HENRY WASE WHITFEILD, Major-General Commanding Her Majesty's in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies.

Whereas the Commands of Her Most Gracious Majesty The QUEEN, conveyed through The Right Honorable Earl GRANVILLE, K.G., Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, have been received, approving of and confirming the following Ordinances; namely:--

No. 1 of 1870, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice

of the Legislative Council thereof, for the Preservation of Birds;

No. 2 of 1870, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to enable the Governor to co-operate with the Chinese Authorities for the Suppression of Piracy;

No. 3 of 1870, entitled-An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, for establishing a Chinese Hospital to be supported by Voluntary Contributions, and for erecting the same into an Eleemosynary Corporation:-

Now, therefore, it is hereby declared, that the said Ordinances have been so approved and confirmed, as aforesaid.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

With reference to Government Notification No. 91 of the 18th Instant, it is hereby made known that His Excellency Major-General WHITFEILD, Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has granted to CHAN-SHENG-LAI, of the Lai-ün Shop, No. 105 Jervois Street, the exclusive Privilege of preparing and selling prepared Opium within the Colony of Hongkong, and the Waters thereof, for the period of One Year from the 1st of August, 1870.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency Major-General WHITFEILD, Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has been pleased to appoint the following Gentlemen to be Justices of the Peace for this Colony, and they have taken the Oaths of Office accordingly:-
