GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The following Decision of the Marine Court of Inquiry into the Loss of the British Caractacus on the Paracels Reefs, China Sea, is published for general information.

Typhoon, on

-The British Ship Caractacus, Official Number 47,586, was wrecked during the 9th May last, on a Reef a Ettle West of Drummond Island, Paracels Reefs. China Sea.

-No blame whatever is to be attached to the Master, GEORGE MURRAY. In returning the Master his Certificate, the Court desires to express its opinion that, taking the Pastances of the very heavy weather experienced, the dangerous position in the China Sea in h the ship encountered it, the serious responsibility devolving on him after the loss of his ship, imely aid to, and humane treatment of the Survivors of II. M. Gunboat Maney, also wrecked on Paracels Reefs, Captain MURRAY'S conduct is deserving of the highest praise.

The Court is also glad to be able to record that in Captain "MURRAY's exertions he was ably ted by his Officers and Crew.
