THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 21ST MAY, 1870.

FINDING.

The Court, having considered the evidence, find:-

First.-That the British Ship Dunmail, Official Number 21,332, 771.61 Tons, was wrecked on the 8th May, 1870, on certain Rocks in the Harbor of Hongkong, lying N.E. by E.E., 1,000 yards from Kowloon Point: (Admiralty Chart 1,466-1,843 corrected to 1861.)

Second. That the Master acted improperly in continuing his course from the Lyee-moon Pass. The Court is of opinion that, under the circumstances of the unfavorable state of the wether and the smallness of the scale of the Admiralty Chart (No. 1,962), by which he was navigating, the Ship should have been anchored.

Third. That the lead was not used.

Fourth. That the wind being fair, there appears no reason why the Ship should not have been kept

on a mid-channel course.

The Court, therefore, adjudges that the Certificate of Competency (Extra Master No. 15,241), held by PETER THOMPSON, be suspended for six months from this date.

Dated at Hongkong, this 17th day of May, 1870.

Approved,

C. MAY, 1st Police Magistrate.

H. G. THOMSETT, R.N., Harbor Master, &c. H. B. GIBB, Un-official Justice of the Peace. W. M. GILLSON, Masters, Mercantile Marine. W. M. LOCKIE,

H. W. WHITFEILD,
