* Engine, and No. 1 Government Steam Engine, proceeded to the Praya near the "Five Lanes," e both were got to work from the sea. The large size hose was laid down through "Gilman" et, and supplied a Tank from which No. 2 Government Steam Engine got a supply of water.
Government Hand Engine also got supplied froin the same source.
*
The Hand Engines of the three several Chinese Associations were got to work near the Canton ser Wharf.
The whole of the Engines both "Steam" and "Hand" worked satisfactorily.
It occurred, as it has done on two previous occasions of Inspections, that the No. 1 Government an Engine, in consequence of its great weight sank down when being conveyed along the Praya; occasioned some delay in extricating it.As this may reasonably be expected to happen again, je taken the precaution by having a Jack-screw and appliances obtained (to be conveyed with Engines) to raise it without delay.
A second "Tank" has also been made within the Jail which will facilitate the supply of sea ter from the No. 1 Steam Engine to other Engines.
An Inspection of the Government Brigades was held at the "Cross Roads" at 4 P.M., 28th February. Steam and Hand Engines, the Hose-reels, Coal-truck, Ladders, Supply Carts, Hose for service store, Implements, Hooks and Ropes, and personal equipment of the Firemen were examined. found correct and in order.
