JAPAN-NIPON-EAST COAST.

Arkold Reef.

Information has been received, that the Russian gunboat Sibole has recently seen the reef off the East coast of Nipon reported by the Russian frigate Arkold and noticed in the "China Pilot" (4th edition, page 476), and there given in lat. 36° 15′ N., long, 141° 28′ E.

The reef (Arkold reef), on which the sea appeared to break with great force, was estimated, by the Commander of the Sibole, to be 20 feet above water, and its approximate position, in lat. 36° 4′ N., long. 141° 25′ E.

JAPAN.

INLAND SEA; EASTERN ENTRANCE.

Fixed Light on Awadji Island, North Point.

Information has been received from the Japanese Government that a light has been placed at Matsu-wo-no-hana, the north point of Awadji island, Akasi strait.

The light is a fixed light of the first order, 158 feet above the sea, illuminating an are from seaward between the bearings of West round southward to N.E. by E. 3 E., and in clear weather can be seen froin a distance of 18 miles.

The tower is built of stone, 15 feet high; position, lat. 31° 36′ 40′′ N., long. 135° 0′ 30′′ E.

GULF of CüsaKA.

Fixed Light on Wada Misaki, Hiogo.

Also, that a temporary light, until the completion of the permanent apparatus, has been placed on Wada Misaki, to the south-west of Kobe anchorage.

The light is a fixed red light, 52 feet above the sea, and in clear weather can be seen from a distance of 10 miles. The tower is an octagonal-shaped white wooden building, 40 feet high; position, lat. 34° 39′ 30′′ N., long. 135° 1o E.

Fixed Light on Temposan Fort, Oösuka.

Also, that a temporary light, until the completion of the permanent apparatus, has been placed in Temposan Fort, at the mouth of the Agi Kawa.

The light is a fixed light, 53 feet above the sea, and in clear weather can be seen from a distance of 10 miles. The tower is a square-shaped white wooden building, 30 feet high; position, lat. 34° 30′ 45′′ N., long. 135° 26′ 35′′ E.

[All Bearings are Magnetic. Variation 4° 15′ Westerly in 1871.]

THE GOVERNOR OF HONGKONG. Sm,-As Lloyds Agents we request you will insert in the usual papers for the benefit of Ship- masters, that on the 21st or 22nd October, the British barque Bunda in beating down the Sca, struck upon a shoal not laid down on the Charts in Latitude 7° 49′ N., Longitude 107° 7′ E. Water over the reef 18 feet.

The vessel is so much damaged that she must be repaired before completing her Voyage.--We arc, Sir, your obedient Servants,
