II. It shall be lawful for the Governor from Time to Time to Constables for enrol in the Police Force of the Colony any number of Constables for such Periods of less than Five Years and upon such special Terms and Conditions as he shall from Time to Time deem expedient.

III. Every Constable enrolled in the Police Force under this Ordinance shall bind himself to serve for such Period and upon such Terms as shall be agreed upon, and he shall not be at Liberty to resign or withdraw himself from the Force before the Expiration of the Period of his Engagement, except with the Permission of the Governor,
IV. Sections IX, XI, and XXIII of Ordinance No. 9 of 1862, and the Provisions of Ordinance No. 8 of 1869 as to the Grant of & Bonus or free Passage and of Pensions shall not apply to Cons- tables enrolled under this Ordinance.
V. The Forms contained in Schedule B of Ordinance No. 9 of dule B may be 1862 may be varied for the Purposes of this Ordinance, so as to varied. meet the circumstances of each particular Case.

In Case any Constable enrolled in the Auxiliary Police Auxiliary Force established under this Ordinance, shall be subsequently Force to count enrolled in the Police Force established under Ordinance No. 9 of 1862, the whole of his Time of Service in the Auxiliary Police under Ordi Force, shall be reckoned in the Computation of his Service for the Purposes of the Bonus and Pensions to which he may become entitled under Ordinance No. 8 of 1869.

An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to modify the Regulations of the "Chinese Passengers' Act, 1855," in respect of Chinese Passenger Ships proceeding upon Short Voyages.
[11th September, 1871.]
WHEREAS Seccion that it shall be lawful for the Lat HEREAS by Section II of the "Chinese Passengers' Act, lature of Hongkong, by any Ordinance to be by them enacted for that Purpose to make Regulations respecting Chinese Passenger Ships, and in the Case of British Ships respecting the Treatment of Passengers therein while at Sea, and that until such Enactment the Regulations contained in Schedule A to the said Act. annexed shall be in Force; AND WHEREAS it is expedient, by an Ordi- nance of the said Legislature, to relieve Chinese Passenger Ships proceeding upon Voyages of not more than Thirty Days' Duration, from the Regulations of the said Schedule, and to provide in lieu thereof modified Regulations for such Ships, subject nevertheless to the Proviso in the said Act contained as to Her Majesty's Confirmation thereof: Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
I. This Ordinance may be cited for all Purposes as "The Chinese Passengers' Ordinance, 1871."
