GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The following Order made by His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, is published for general information.

ORDER
Made by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, this 8th Day of September, 1871, under Section XXIII of Ordinance No. 14 of 1870.
Whereas by Section XXIII of Ordinance No. 14 of 1870, entitled "An Ordinance enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of the Legislative Council thereof, to amend and consolidate the Law in relation to the Issue of Passes for Chinese, and to provide for the better Security of the Residents of the Colony," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council whenever he shall deem it expedient by any Order to be published in the Gazette, from time to time to direct that all Chinese, or all Chinese not being Holders of Annual or Special Passes, who may have occasion to go about the City of Victoria after Dark, shall, within such hours as may be specified in such Order, carry or cause to be carried with them a Lighted Lamp or Lantern; and by the same Section it is provided that the Requirements of any such Order shall be deemed to be complied with, if one Lighted Lamp or Lantern be carried for any number of Persons belonging to the same Party:
Now, therefore, in accordance with the Provision hereinbefore recited, and by virtue thereof, it
is ordered by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, as follows:---
All Chinese not being Holders of Annual or Special Passes, who may have occasion to go about the City of Victoria between 7 P.M. and 5 A.M., shall carry or cause to be carried a Lighted Lamp or Lantern, until further notice.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
His Excellency Major-General WHITFEILD, Commanding Her Majesty's Troops in China and Japan, and Lieutenant-Governor of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, has been pleased to recognize RUDOLPH JENSEN, Esquire, as Acting Consal for Denmark at this Port, during the absence of GEORGE J. HIELLAND, Esquire, and subject to the pleasure of Her Majesty's Government.
