THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, 8TH JULY, 1871.
FIRE BRIGADE OFFICE, HONGKONG, 7th July, 1871. SIR,--I have the honor to forward to you to be laid before Ilis Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor. the Report of the Hongkong Fire Brigade for the Month of June, 1871.
A Parade and Inspection was held on the 30th June; the assembly took place at the Cross Roads at 44 P.M.
Three Hand Engines of Chinese Association were present in addition to the Government Engines. The whole of the Engines were taken to the Praya in the immediate vicinity of the Harbo Master's Office, and brought into work with sea water. They were found in good order with the trifling exception of one of the lengths of Suction Hoses admitting air through a fracture in one of the couplings; this has been rectified.
The subsidiary Fire Stations have been visited during the month, and the Hose and Implements brought into use from the mains; all were in good order, and the Shop Coolies in charge appeared to understand their work.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
The Honorable J. GARDINER AUSTIN,
Colonial Secretary,
HONGKONG.
C. MAY,
Superintendent Fire Brigade.
