The illuminating apparatus is of the first order.

The tower, 75 feet high, is built of white stone. Position, lat. 34° 34′20′′ N., long. 138° 57' 10" E.

Note.The red portion of the light will cover all the dangers between Rock island and the shore, and its eastern edge

will lead into Simoda harbour.

Also, that the temporary light exhibited on the island world be discontinued.

CHINA-EAST COAST.

North Saddle Island Light.

With reference to Notice to Mariners, No. 12, dated 13th February 1871, respecting the exhibition of the first class light revolving every minute on North Saddle island, on the authority of the London and China Telegraph:--Official information has been received of the same, with the additional information, that the light is obscured to the southward, from False Saddle island to Elliot islands, or between the bearings N.W. W., and E. by N. N., and that it is 273 feet above high water.

The lower part of the tower is painted white and the upper part black.

YANG-TSE-KIANG ENTRANCE. Tungsha Light.

With reference to Notice to Mariners, No. 110, dated 21st October 1870, respecting an intended alteration in Tungsha light, information has been received that it is now a revolving white light, attaining its greatest brilliancy every forty seconds: the light is elevated 40 feet above the sea, and in clear weather should be seen from a distance of 11 miles.

NOTE. When necessary to lower the light for trimming, a small white mast-head light will be exhibited together with a Hash light.

Beacon on Block House Shoal.

Also, that an iron screw pile beacon has been erected on the western part of the Block House shoal, in 4 feet water; from it

The beacon is pyramidal shaped, surmounted by a ball, which is 20 feet above high water springs. It can be seen 9 miles.
