The following Letter from Her Majesty's Commissioners for the Exhibition of 1851, referring to the Exhibition proposed to be held in 1873, is published for general information.

Copies of the Papers mentioned in Major-General ScOTT's Letter can be obtained on application at this Office.

SIR,-I am directed by Her Majesty's Commissioners for the Exhibition of 1851 to forward, for the information of the Earl of Kimberley, the following documents relating to the Exhibition of 1873:-

1. General Rules and Regulations for exhibiting at the Exhibition of 1873.

2. Special Rules for exhibiting Fine Arts.

3. Special Rules for exhibiting Silk and Velvet Fabrics.

4. Special Rules for exhibiting Steel.

5. Special Rules for exhibiting Surgical Instruments.

6. Special Rules for exhibiting Carriages not connected with Rail or Tram Roads.

7. Special Rules for exhibiting Substances used as Food.

8. Special Rules for exhibiting Cooking and its Science.

9. Special Rules for exhibiting Recent Scientific Inventions and New Discoveries.

11. Special arrangements for Objects sent direct by Foreign Governments.

12. Form for showing the Amount and Nature of the Space required under the several Classes

and Sections of each Division.

13. Arrangements for the Carriage, Unpacking, and Inspection of Foreign Goods.

I am to request that you will be so good as to move the Earl of Kimberley to have the kindness to cause these documents to be forwarded to each British Colony for the use of the Government thereof, and at the same time to point out that although Forms 11, 12, and 13 relate more specially to Foreign Countries, yet the conditions therein laid down are to a great extent applicable to the Colonies. Should, however, any variation from these Rules be thought necessary, Her Majesty's Commissioners will be prepared to give due consideration to any application that may be made to them in reference thereto.

Her Majesty's Commissioners trust that the papers will afford all necessary information to the British Colonies which propose to take part in next year's Exhibition. I am, however, to add, that they will have much pleasure in giving any further information or explanation that may be required.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Notice is hereby given, that the Privilege of preparing and selling Prepared Opium within this Colony for the term of Three Years, from the 1st March, 1873, under the Provisions of Ordinance No. 2 of 1858, will be put up to Public Auction at the Government Offices, at Noon, on Monday, the 3rd February, 1873.

The conditions under which the Auction will be held are hereunto annexed; but the Government does not bind itself to accept the highest offer.
