Captain BAIRD, of H.M.S. Juno, reports that on the 4th instant, when steaming into the Bay of Tongbu, the Ship struck on a sunken Rock (Coral) with 6 fathoms all round it. On surveying the spot next morning a cluster of pinnacle Rocks was found, with two fathoms of water over them at low

Captain ARTHUR, of H.M.S. Iron Duke, informs me that "the Russian Troop Ship Naboska was "lost on a Shoal off the South part of Quelpart Island in April, 1870. It is placed in the following "position: Latitude 32.59 N., Longitude 126.13 E., and is described as a Rock about 500 feet long "with deep water all round, and with no breakers except in a heavy sea."

Also the Yedo Rock at the entrance to Posiette Bay is placed in Latitude 42.34.0 N., and Longitude 132.52.40 E.; it is a triangular shaped Shoal with 10 feet least water on it. From this depth of 10 feet Ostrano Point or Malte Brun bears Magnetic West 34 miles."

The following Notification, relative to Quarantine Rules, received from the Government of India, is published for general information.

No. 10 of 1872. The following Quarantine Rules, submitted by the Government of Fort St. George, having been approved by the Right Honorable the Governor General of India in Council,' are published under the provisions of Section 2, Act I of 1870:
Rules relating to quarantine for the ports mentioned in Schedule A hereto annexed.
The following rules, made by His Excellency the Governor of Madras in Council, with the sauction of the Governor General in Council, in pursuance of the provisions contained in Act I of 1870, are hereby promulgated for general information:
I-The master or other person in charge of any vessel about to enter any of the ports mentioned in Schedule A, annexed hereto, in which any case or cases of cholera, yellow fever, Asiatic plague, small-pox, or other disease dangerous to the general healtli, may have occurred within a period of teu days previous to the date of the arrival of such ship or vessel at any of the ports aforesaid, shall notify this fact by hoisting a signal, which signal shall be in the day time a yellow flag at the fore and in the night time two lighted lanterns, one over the other, at the same mast-head; and such master, or other person as aforesaid, shall not take up anchoring ground within the said port without having obtained the previous sanction of the Master Attendant, or other officer in charge of the port, nor without such leave shall he hold any communication with the shore or with any shipping within the said port,
II. Whenever the master or other person in charge of any vessel about to enter any of the ports aforesaid is unable to produce a clean bill of health obtained from the proper authority at the port last visited, he shall notify this fact to the Master Attendant or other officer in charge of the port, by hoisting a signal as aforesaid, and thereupon the Master Attendant or other officer in charge of the port may, on the report of the Port Surgeon or other officer appointed by the Government in that behalf, suggesting or warranting the adoption of such a measure, refuse to permit the master or other person as aforesaid to anchor his vessel within the ordinary limits of the said port, and may forbid all communication between the vessel and the shore until a quarantine of observation, not exceeding twenty-four hours from the receipt of the report of the Port Surgeon or other officer appointed by Government in that behalf, shall have been enforced.
III. It shall be the duty of the Port Surgeon or other officer appointed by Government in that behalf to proceed without delay on board any vessel about to enter any of the ports aforesaid in which any case or cases of cholera, yellow fever, Asiatic plague, sinall-pox, or other disease dangerous to the general health, shall have occurred within ten days previous to the date of the arrival of such vessel as aforesaid, or whenever the master or other person in charge of any vessel is unable to produce a clean bill of health from the port last visited, and such Surgeon or other officer as aforesaid, shall inspect the crew and passengers of every vessel as aforesaid, and make careful inquiry as to the nature of the diseases then existing on board every such vessel, and inake a report thereon to the Master Attendant or other officer in charge of the said port.
