The following Notice to Mariners is published for general information.

The following Report of a Sunken Rock, said to exist off Leong-Soi Point, Island of Hainan, has been received from the Master of the American steamer Daniel Jean Richard.

HONGKONG, 25th April, 1872.
Position of the Rock or Coral-bank on which the S. S. Daniel Jean Richard struck on the 28th March, 1872, whilst off the S.E. coast of Hainan, bound for Saigon.
Leong-Soy Point bearing N. 33° 45′ W., distance 5 miles, close to where on the Admiralty Charts is marked 43 fathoms. The Rock is steep to, having on the Eastern side 6 fathoms water, and on the Western side 16 feet water. There cannot be more than 11 feet on the shoalest part of the rock, as the steamer's draught aft was 12 feet 6 inches at the time. After getting off the Rock, did not get any soundings with 9 fathoms line.
