No. S. 352.--It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in duplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for Quarries", will be received at this Office until Noon on Monday, the 20th day of December, 1920, for the letting of the undermentioned Granite Quarries at Hongkong, Kowloon, and the New Territories, for one year or, as an alterna- tive, for a period of 3 years from the 1st January, 1921.

Each tender must be accompanied by a receipt to the effect that the tenderer has deposited in the Colonial Treasury a sum as stated in the schedule hereunder opposite to each quarry, as a pledge of the bonâ fides of his offer, which sum shall be forfeited to the Crown, if the tenderer refuses to carry out his tender and comply with the conditions hereinafter contained, should the tender be accepted.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest or any tender. Forms of tender can be obtained from the Director of Public Works.

* The attention of the tenderers for Hok Un No. 6 is hereby drawn to the fact that the road between K.M.L. 53 and 69 will be completely closed and that it will not be available for conveyance of stone to junks after 31st December, 1920.

CONDITIONS OF LETTING.

1. The areas to be let are shown approximately on plan deposited in the Public Works Department.

2. Each party, whose tender may be accepted in writing for any or all of the quarry lots, shall pay into the Colonial Treasury on or before the 7th January, 1921, a sum equivalent to the rent of such lot or lots from 1st January to 31st March, 1921, as security for the proper fulfilment of these conditions. He shall then be entitled to, and shall be granted a permit to quarry granite from the lot or lots for a period extending from 1st January to 31st December, 1921, or from 1st January, 1921, to 31st December, 1923 (if the tender or tenders are for a period of 3 years) at the rental or rentals specified in his tender, payable quarterly on or before the 7th day of January, 1921, and after- wards on the 1st day of April, July, and October, 1921, respectively; and thereafter on or before the 1st January, April, July, and October in each and every year up to a period of 3 year from 1st January, 1921, respectively; and on production of Treasury receipt for such, a permit to quarry will be issued by the Director of Public Works.

3. The Government will permit, if practicable, each Permittee to erect and maintain such temporary piers and jetties as may in the opinion of the Director of Public Works be reasonably necessary for the purpose of shipping stone cut in the Quarry or Quarries into junks or boats; the sites and dimensions of such temporary piers and jetties shall he subject in all respects to the approval of the Director of Public Works, who may at any time direct the removal of any such temporary pier or jetty to any other place, the expense of such removal to be borne by the Permittee.
