The following Report from the Acting Registrar General, containing Returns of Births and Deaths for the Quarter ending 30th June, 1875, is published for general information.

REGISTRAR GENERAL'S OFFICE, VICTORIA, HONGKONG, 9th August, 1875.

SIR,-I have the honour to forward the Returns of Births and Deaths for the Second Quarter of 1875, ending June 30th.

During that period, a total of 365 Births and 707 Deaths has been registered in Victoria and the four districts of Shau-ki Wán, Stanley, Aberdeen and Kowloon.

Of this number, 31 Births, being those of Boys 13 and Girls 18, occurred amongst persons other than Chinese.

The Deaths in this class number 40, of whom 10 were non-residents, and the remainder are thus distributed as regards nationality:-

The Births and Deaths amongst the Chinese were those of:-

The Death rate of the Quarter amongst the British and Foreign Community is 24.60, and amongst the Chinese 22.87 annually for every thousand persons living. For the whole population of the Colony the rate is 22.97 for every thousand persons.

If the Deaths of the non-residents be deducted, the Death rate of the British and Foreign Community is only 22.52 per thousand annually.
