GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Tenders will be received at this Office until Noon of the 25th instant, for the construction of new Main Sewers in Wanchai, between the Praya and Queen's Road.

Plans and Specifications may be seen on application at the Surveyor General's Office, where a proper Form of Tender may also be obtained.

The Government will not bind itself to accept the lowest, or any Tender.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

No. 40.

CHINA SEA.

CHEFOO DISTRICT.

Shantung Lighthouse.

Notice is hereby given, that the Light on the N.E. Shantung Promontory was exhibited for the first time at sunset on the 15th December, 1874.

The illuminating apparatus is fixed Dioptric, of the First Order, showing a white light from S. 62° E. to S. 30° E., red from S. 30° E. to S. 17° E., white from S. 17° E. round by S. and W. to N. 21o E., and red from N. 21° E. to N. 49° E. Between S. 591° E. and S. 181° E. the light is seven times obscured by peaks; the obscuration between S. 26° 18′ E. and S. 23° 10′ E. being caused by Alceste Island. The bearings are magnetic and taken from seaward.

The Light is elevated 200 feet above the level of the sea, and, in clear weather, the white light should be visible at a distance of 21 nautical miles.

The Tower is round, of stone, 35 feet high, with a total height from its base to the lantern vane of 64 feet.

The Tower, dwellings and boundary wall will be painted white.

The temporary light, referred to in Notice to Mariners No. 39, has been discontinued.
