COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT,
No. S. 128.-It is hereby notified that the Government intends to offer for sale by public auction, on or about the 1st November next, the whole of the area of Crown land at the corner of Pedder Street and Queen's Road Central, formerly occupied by the Post Office, Supreme Court and other Government Buildings, as delineated upon a plan which may be seen in the Public Works Office. The entire area available for sale amounts to about 36,500 square feet. The Government is prepared to consider proposals from intending purchasers for subdividing the entire area into lots of moderate size.
Subject to certain reservations as to the manner in which any building to be erected on the area may be occupied, the Government is prepared to sanction the erection of buildings not exceeding a height of 125 feet.
The term of the lease for any portion of the area will be 75 years, commencing from the date of sale, with the option of renewal at a Crown rent to be fixed by the Surveyor of His Majesty the King for one further term of 75 years. The Crown rent for the entire area for the first period of 75 years will be $4,200 per annum. In the event of the area being subdivided, the aforesaid Crown rent will be apportioned in proportion to the areas of such subdivisions but in each case will be calculated to the nearest even dollar. The upset price will be at the rate of $50 per square foot.
In the case of that portion of the area which is occupied by Messrs. Watkins & Co.,. the purchaser will not be given possession until 3 months after the day of sale.
