Sir,–I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of your Despatch No. 94 of the 28th September, and to express to you my approval of the steps which you have taken for increasing the strength and efficiency of the night patrols of the Hongkong Police.

I understand you to be of opinion that the authorised Force is able to supply these additional night patrols by a rearrangement of duties, but

if an increase of the force will be involved, I request you to furnish ine as soon as possible with an estimate of the cost of such increase.
