This Standard Work on the Chimène Language, constructed on the basis of Kanghi's Imperial

Dictionary, contains all Chinese characters in practical use, and while alphabetically arranged according to the sounds of the oldest dialect of China, the Cantonesej is gives also the Mandarin pronunciation of all characiones explained in the book, so that its usefulness is by no means con- fined to the Cantonese Dialect, but the work is a practically complete Thesaurus of the whole Written Language of China, ancient and modern, as used all over the Empire, whilst its intro- ductory chapters serve the purposes of a philolo- gical guide to the student.
