The following Regulations made by the Governor in Council under Section 17 of Ordinance No. 14 of 1887, are published for general information.

Regulations made by the Governor in Council, in pursuance of Section 17 of Ordinance No. 14 of 1887, for the granting of Police Pensions, this 22nd day of May, 1888.

1. The following Regulations apply to all Inspectors, Sergeants, Sergeant Interpreters, Application and Constables of the Police Force who may join after the promulgation of the present regulations; excepting those who have enlisted under special agreement.

2. Subject to the exceptions and provisions hereinafter contained, a Pension will be 15 years' granted to any Member of the Force, who has completed fifteen years' service, at a rate not service. exceeding 20/60s of the Annual pay of his rank, provided he shall have been in receipt of the same for the last three years; otherwise, the Pension shall be calculated upon the average amount of pay received by such person during the three years next preceding the commencement of such Pension. Further, for every full and complete year's service after fifteen years, an addition to the Annual Pension of 1/60th part of the average Annual pay of his rank shall be made for each additional year of such service.

3. Any Member of the Force who may be invalided after serving ten complete years 10 years' and under fifteen years, may (provided that such invaliding be not the consequence of service. intemperate or vicious habits) be granted a Pension not exceeding 15/60th of the average Annual pay of his rank during the past three years for ten years' service, and 1/60th for each full and complete year's service after ten years.

4. Any Member of the Force who may be invalided as aforesaid before the completion Under of ten years' service may be granted a Gratuity not exceeding one month's pay for each 10 years complete year's service.

It shall, however, be in the discretion of the Governor in Council to grant a special rate of pension to any Member of the Police Force who may be compelled to quit the Public Service by reason of severe bodily injury, occasioned without his own fault, in the discharge of his public duty.

In every such case the amount of pension shall be made to vary partly in proportion to the number of years served by the injured man, and partly in proportion to the severity of the injury.

The portion of the pension earned by length of service shall be calculated at the rate of 1/60th of the salary and emoluments of the sufferer at the time when the injury or accident occurred, for each year of service completed by him at the time he retires, whether the number of years served be more or less than 10, but no number of service

years shall be allowed to give a claim to pension of more than 10/60ths in respect of service only. And the Captain Superintendent of Police shall in every such case furnish a Medical certificate stating:

(a.) Whether the capacity of the sufferer to contribute towards his own support is

slightly impaired, impaired, materially impaired, or totally destroyed, and

(6.) Whether such, incapacity is likely to be permanent.

(e.) Whether the retirement is to be attributed solely and immediately to the

injuries received.

An addition to the pension of the sufferer, on account of the injury may then be made on the following scale:

(When the capacity is certified to be slightly impaired not exceeding 6/60ths of

the pay and emoluments,

(6.) When impaired not exceeding 12/60

ths

(e) When materially impaired not exceeding 18/60th

(4.) When totally destroyed not exceeding 24/60:28

But in no case, however, shall the total amount of the pension exceed the full amount of the.

pay and emoluments of the sufferer at the time when the injury occurred.

6. All Pensions granted shall be payable in Hongkong or London, or in the principal Pensions towns of British India.
