BE it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

No proceedings of any kind civil or criminal shall Indemnity, be brought or commenced for or by reason of or in respect of any such act, order, ruling, decree, judgment, or sentence done pronounced, given, made, delivered, or passed by the said ALFRED GASCOYNE WISE Esquire while purporting to hold the office of Paisne Judge as aforesaid of the Supreme Court of this Colony against the said ALFRED GASCOYNE WISE Esquire: nor for, or by reason of, or in respect of, anything done or purported to be done under any such net, order, ruling, decree, judgment, or sentence, as aforesaid against any other person, which proceedings could not have been brought or commenced it his said office of Puisue Judge had never been avoided as aforesaid by the said ALFRED GASCOYNE Wise Esquire: and the said ALFRED GASCOYNE WISE Esquire, and any person by whom anything has been done or purported to be done as aforesaid shall be and are hereby declared to be freed acquitted discharged and indemnified as well against the King's Most Gracious Majesty His Heirs and Successors as against all and every person or persons whomsoever, in respect of all such matters as aforesaid, but, to the same extent only and in like manner as if the said office of Puisne Judge had never been avoided as aforesaid.

4. The pension of the said ALFRED GASCOYNE WISE Pension Esquire as such Paisue Judge shall be deemed to have and salary, continued to accrue and his salary as such Paisne Judge shall be deemed to have continned to be due and all pay- ments of such salary made up to this date to have been lawfully made in like manner as if his said office of Puisne Judge had never been avoided as aforesaid.

An Ordinance to amend the Bills of Exchange

Ordinance, 1885.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof. ns follows:--

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Bills of Ex- Short title change (Crossed cheques) Amendment Ordinance, 1907, and

and shall be read and coustrued as one with the Bills of construction. Exchange Ordinance, 1885, hereinafter called the Principal Ordinance.

2. Section 82 of the Principal Ordinance is hereby Amendment amended by the addition at the end of such section of the of section 82 following proviso :-

Provided always that a banker shall be deemed Proviso. to receive payment of a crossed cheque for a Customer's customer within the meaning of this section account may notwithstanding that he credits his customer's account with the amount of the cheque before receiving payment.

Objects and Reasons.

The object of this Bill is to remove the liability of a banker who credits his customer's account with the amount of a crossed cheque before receiving payment thereof.
