SHANGHAI DISTRICT.
Erection of Lighthouse on S.W. Horn commenced.
NOTICE is hereby given that the building of a lighthouse on S.W. Horn has been com- menced.
The Light, when completed, will be Dioptric, Occulting, of the Sixth Order, showing a fixed White and Red Light varied by a single eclipse every 20 seconds thus :

The Light will show White except over the Rugged Island between the bearings of, approximately, N. 62° W. and S. 8° 30′ W. where it will show Red.
The Station, when completed, will be provided with a gun as a Fog Signal.
On or about the 4th April, a temporary Light will be exhibited. The Light will be Group-occulting, of the Sixth Order, showing a white light varied by 4 eclipses in quick succession every 30 seconds, thus :-

The Light will be elevated about 85 feet above the level of the sea, and should be visible in clear weather at a distance of 10 nautical miles.

CAUTION.—The temporary light will not show a RED SECTOR.
A further notice will be issued when the permanent Light is exhibited.
