NOTICES TO MARINERS.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA.

LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE.

1919. No. 4.

The Astronomical positions are only approximate unless seconds are given. The bearings are given both True and Magnetic, and those relating to lights are from seaward. The visibility of lights is that in clear weather. Fog signals are sounded only in thick or foggy weather. The elevation given is the height of focal plane above high water.

AUSTRALIA, -SOUTH COAST, BASS STRAIT.

Point Lonsdale Light.-Intended Alteration in Character.

MARINERS and others are hereby notified that the Occulting Light with White and Red Sectors on Point Lonsdale will be replaced by a Group Flashing Light with White and Red Sectors, on or about 15th September, 1919.

Position. On the West side of entrance to Port Philip.

Lat. 38° 17' S.; Long. 144° 36' E; on Chart No. 1171.

Details. The Occulting Light every fifteen seconds, with White and Red Sectors, will be replaced by a New Light having the undermentioned characteristics :---

Character.---Group Flashing Light with White and Red Sectors, showing two

flashes in quick succession every six seconds, thus:-

Power.-White, 4,000 candles. Red, 1,500 candles.

Remarks.-The light will be unwatched, but the Signal Station will be continued as heretofore. The other details of the light will remain unchanged.

Eagle Nest Point (Split Point).-Intended Alteration in Character. Auxiliary White Light to be Discontinued.

MARINERS and others are hereby notified that the Fixed Red Light with White Sectors on Eagle Nest Point (Split Point) will be replaced by a Group Flashing White Light with Red Sectors; and, further, that the Auxiliary White Light will be discontinued, on or about 1st October, 1919.

Position. Lat. 38° 28' S.; Long. 144° 06' E. on Chart No. 1695B.
