Dated CALCUTTA, the 13th March, 1899. SIR, I am directed to state, for your information, that intimation having been received of the outbreak of plague at Hongkong the necessary instructions have been issued to the officers concerned to strictly enforce the Venice Sanitary Convention regulations in the Ports of Calcutta and Chitta- gong against vessels arriving from Hongkong.

J'ai l'honneur de vous informer que Monsieur le Gouverneur Général de l'Indo-Chine m'a télé- graphié qu'une quarantaine de neuf jours y compris la traversée est imposée dans les ports de l'Indo- Chine française aux navires provenant de Hongkong.
L'immigration de Chinois est suspendue.
L'importation des chiffons est prohibée ainsi que celle des farines et de toutes autres deurées sus- ceptibles d'attirer des animaux rougeurs.
