SHANGHAI-NINGPO DISTRICTS.

Tongting Island Light exhibited.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 260 (Special), notice is hereby given that the Light on Tongting Island was exhibited for the first time at Sunset on the 23rd February, 1907.

The illuminating apparatus is dioptric of the Fourth Order and gives four white lightning flashes in quick succession every 20 seconds. The power of each flash is about 24,000 candles.

The Light, which is situated on the summit of the Island and is visible all round, is elevated 180 feet above the level of the sea and should be visible in clear weather at a dis- tance of 19 nautical miles.

The Tower is 13 feet high, with a total height from base to lantern vane of 28 feet. The Tower and buildings are painted white.

In thick or foggy weather a Second Class single-note reed Fog Horn will be sounded giving a blast of, approximately, 2 seconds duration every 20 seconds.

CAUTION :---It should be noted that a Second Class Single-note reed Fog Horn has not the power of a 1st Class Siren.

BEACON LIGHT.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 13th inst. a Fixed Green Light will be shown from the beacon which has been erected on Tobansho (Bush I.), at the entrance to Kelung Harbour, and that after the same day the present beacon will be removed.

The Position of the Beacon Light, according to the Japanese Admiralty Chart No. 230, is in Latitude 25 deg. 9 min. 37 sec. North, and in Longitude 121 deg. 45 min. 7 sec. East of Greenwich.

The Lantern of the Beacon is fixed at the top of an Iron Staff, painted Black, and it is 25 feet high from the base.

The Light will illuminate 193 degrees of the horizon from N. 19 deg. E. to S. 32 deg. W. The bearings are magnetic and as observed from the sea.

The intensity of the Light will be 30 Candles. The Light will be 274 feet high above the sea and visible in clear weather at a distance of 51⁄2 nautical miles.

The Light being to be kept burning day and night by self-feeding arrangement, without attendance of a keeper, should it go out by accident, there may be some delay before relight- ing it. Mariners are hereby cautioned accordingly.
