Owing to the passage of two typhoons during the month the mean barometric pressure for August, 2961ins., was the lowest, and the mean wind velocity, 13′ 4m.p.h., was the highest on record.

The maximum temperature for the month, 940 which occurred on August 25, has only been exceeded once, 97-0° having been recorded on August 19, 1900. daily temperature for August 25, 88.6°, was the highest on record.
