No. 236. The following Order of His Majesty the KING in Council, with regard to the nationality, of persons having charge of British merchant ships, which appeared in the London Gazette of the 14th March, 1919, is published for general information.

WHEREAS

HEREAS by an Order in Council, dated the twenty-eighth day of November, nine- teen hundred and fourteen, His Majesty was pleased to make regulations (called the "Defence of the Realm Regulations ") under the Defence of the Realin Consolidation Act, 1914, for securing the public safety and the defence of the realm :

And whereas the said Act has been amended by the Defence of the Realm (Amend- ment) Act, 1915, the Defence of the Realm (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1915, and the Munitions of War Act, 1915, and other enactments:

And whereas the said regulations have been amended by various subsequent Orders in Council:

And whereas it is expedient further to amend the said regulations in manner here- inafter appearing:

Now, therefore, His Majesty is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the following amendments be made in the said regulations :--

1. The following regulation shall be inserted after Regulation 37c :-

37D. A person shall not, unless specially authorised for the time being by the Admiralty or Board of Trade, act in the capacity of master or person in charge of a British merchant ship unless he is a natural born British subject and the son of parents both of whom were at the time of his birth either natural born British subjects or British subjects by naturali- sation, and if any person acts in contravention of this regulation he shall be guilty of a summary offence against these regulations."

2. Regulation 39B is hereby revoked and shall be omitted.

No. 237.-It is hereby notified that, on the application of MARIAN OBREMBSKI, HERBERT CHARLES RESKER and Messrs. BUTTERFIELD & SWIRE as agents for the Taikoo Sugar Refining Company, Limited, all of Victoria, in the Colony of Hongkong, His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government in Council has been pleased to direct that the said MARIAN ÖBREMBSKI, Herbert CHARLES RESKER and Messrs. BUTTER- FIELD & SWIRE as agents for the Taikoo Sugar Refining Company, Limited, may use and publish in the Colony for a further period of six months from the 7th day of May, 1919, an invention for the Preparation or manufacture of a vegetable decolorizing carbon called "Albit" without prejudice to the Letters Patent to be granted for the said inven- tion.
