JOTICE is hereby given that the undersigned intend at an early date to apply to the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for a bill to suppress and prevent abuses in the management of Chinese temples and in the administration of the funds of Chinese temples.

A BILL

An Ordinance to suppress and prevent abuses in the management of Chinese temples and in the administration of the funds of Chinese temples.

BE it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Chinese Short title.

Temples Ordinance, 1928.

2. In this Ordinance "Chinese temple" includes:-

(a) All Miu (, Temples), Tsz (, Budd- hist Monasteries), Kun and To Yuen ( X, Taoist Monasteries), and Om (Nunneries), and

(b) every place where :--

(i) in accordance with the religious principles governing Miu, Tsz, Kun, To Yuen or Om, worship of gods, or communication with spirits, or fortune telling, is prac- tised or is intended to be practised, and Where

(i) fees, payments or rewards of any kind whatsoever are charged to or are accept- ed from any member of the public for the purpose of worship or communica- tion with spirits or fortune telling or any similar purpose, or in return for joss candles or incense sticks, or on any other account whatsoever.

3.—(1) It shall be lawful for the Chinese Temples Regulations. Committee referred to in section 6 to make, subject to

the approval of the Governor in Council, regulations for any of the following purposes :

(a) the registration, management, control, and

inspection of Chinese temples;
