An Ordinance to amend the Defence (Sketching Prevention)
Ordinance, 1895.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Defences (Sketch- Short title. ing Prevention) Amendment Ordinance, 1940.
2. The Defences (Sketching Prevention) Ordinance, Amendments 1895, is amended-
to Ordinance No. 1 of 1895, ss. 1A.

(1) by the insertion of the words "or air force" after 2, 4, 4A and the words "naval or military in sections 1A (6), 2 (1), 4 and 44;
(ii) by the insertion of the words " or of the field of fire of any weapon therein" after the word
battery" in section 2 (1);

(iii) by the insertion of the words or aircraft" after the word ships in sections 2 (1) and 4;
(iv) by the insertion of the words "or landing, firing, bombing or minefield areas

in sections 1A (b), 2 (1) and 4;

(v) by the insertion of the words "or air" after the words "naval or military" in section 6.
Objects and Reasons.
The object of this amending Bill is to bring the Defences (Sketching Prevention) Ordinance up to date by applying it to air force premises as well as to naval or military premises, to His Majesty's aircraft as well as to His Majesty's ships, to the field of fire from batteries, to landing, firing bombing or minefield areas as well as to anchorages and to give to commissioned or non-commissioned officers in the air forces the same powers of arrest as are given to the like officers in the naval or military forces.
