No. S. 508.-It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in triplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for Hok Un Quarry", will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Monday, the 16th day of October, 1939, for the work of site formation and erection of buildings, together with all contingent works.

As security for the proper performance of the works under this contract, the successful tenderer will be required to deposit, in cash, a sum of $5,000 with the Accountant-General.

Any tenderer may be required as a condition of the consideration or acceptance of his tender to supply full particulars of the constitution of his firm.

No work will be permitted on Sundays.

For form of tender, specification and further particulars apply at this Office. The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.

GOVERNMENT STORES DEPARTMENT.

No. S. 509.-Sealed tenders in quadruplicate which should be clearly marked "Tenders for the supply of Coal to the Hong Kong Government", will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Monday, 23rd October, 1939, for the supply of Coal to the Government for the period 1st January, 1940 to 31st March, 1941.

The quantity of coal will vary according to requirements, and prices should be quoted for each of the following grades:-

(a) Anthracite Coal about 200 tons.

(b) Household Coal (Double Screened) about 2,100 tons.

(c) Launch Dust Coal about 10,000 tons.

(d) 80% Lump Coal for Pumping Stations, and Quarries, &c., about 6,000 tons.

(e) Anthracite Dust Coal about 2,000 tons.

1. Before final acceptance of the tenders, tenderers must be prepared to forward to the Government Analyst on demand, samples of the Coal offered.

2. The origin and name of the Coal should be stated in each case.

The prices quoted should include delivery charges to destination.

Free storage will not be provided.

Information as to the places of delivery may be obtained at the office of the Con- troller of Stores, Wanchai.

3. The rebate on supplies falling below standard shall be based on calorific value of the Coal.

4. No tender will be received unless the person tendering produces a receipt to the effect that he has deposited in the Colonial Treasury the sum of $500 as a pledge of the bona fides of his offer, which sum shall be forfeited to the Crown, if such person refuses to carry out his tender, if accepted.

The successful tenderer will be required to sign a formal contract and to give security in the sum of $15,000 in cash, or a proportional part thereof if a tender is accepted in part, to be deposited with the Colonial Treasury for the due and faithful performance of the terms of such contract.
