An Ordinance for promoting the revision of the Ordinances

of Hong Kong.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Law Revision Ordinance, 1939.

2. In this Ordinance and the Schedule thereto, including any additions, alterations or amendments made under the provisions of section 4, and any Tables annexed to the said Schedule-

(a) expressions similar to the following--

indicate an Ordinance of the year referred to therein together with its serial number;

(b) the abbreviations "s.",

sub-s." and "sub-ss." indicate respectively the words section ",

sub-section and sub-sections"

sections "

(c) "the editor means the person appointed by the Governor under Ordinance No. 51 of 1936 for the purpose of preparing the Ordinances of Hong Kong (1937 edition);

(d) "the Ordinances of Hongkong, 1844-1923" and "the Ordinances of Hong Kong (1937 edition)" have the same meanings respectively as in Ordinance No. 51 of 1936;

(e) the printing of any letters, words, figures, signs or marks between inverted commas shall be deemed to include all the letters, words, figures, signs or marks so printed, without the use of words describing the same.

3. Notwithstanding anything contained in Ordinance No. amendments, 51 of 1936, the provisions of this Ordinance shall apply to the Ordinances comprised in the Ordinances of Hong Kong (1937 edition), and the repeals, deletions, substitutions and other amendments directed to be made by this Ordinance or by the Schedule thereto shall be made in the said Ordinances in the manner indicated, and the said Ordinances are hereby authorized to be printed as so amended and shall be construed and enforced accordingly.

4. The Legislative Council may by resolution add to, alter or amend any of the provisions of this Ordinance or of the Schedule thereto by means of one or more Supplementary Schedules, and every such Supplementary Schedule shall be deemed to be part of this Ordinance.
